I have gotten a lot of questions about how I alter cards, so here is a little demo.
For this card, I used Golden Acrylic Paints (Titan Buff, Titanium White, Mars Black, Primary Cyan, Permanent Green Light, and Dioxazine Purple) as well as Prismacolor Pens for some of the final touches. Afterwards, the card was sprayed with Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating.

The first step is to basecoat the card. When doing this I try to get a color that is somewhat close to the colors of the card. In this case I chose a dark blue/purpleish color and a teal color. I aslo added color on the card where I planned to have stuff come out in front of the textbox.
It usualkly takes 2 to 3 basecoats for darker colors and 6 to 7 for lighter colors. After the final basecoat, I usually go in with a toothpick to clean up the edges of the title-box and text-box to make it look cleaner.
Once I have a thick enough basecoat, I start blocking in some shapes. On the Trinket Mage I added some highlights around the bottom where I wanted to paint in some gears and some shapes in the back. I also wanted to ensure that the shapes mirrored the ones that were already on the card.
Here I added in some more detail to the shapes that I blocked in earlier, giving them more definition to make them look like gears and gadgets of some sort. Afterwards I went and added highlights to the gears. I painted the highlights to once more match the already existing highlights on the card.
I felt like the highlights were a little to bright, so I toned them down with some colored prisma color pens (yellow, light teal and milky white). I also finished off some off the detail work on the table and added a drop shadow to the parts that hang over the cardbox.
And last but not least I added the paw print ^^
